Does vinyl flooring need to be acclimated?

While your new vinyl floor does not react to the elements in the same way that solid or engineered wood, it does still need to be acclimated before installation. These materials tend to require a slight equalization, and we're going to tell you more about that in today's post, so read along to find out more.

Vinyl floor core components often feature a high-density profile which can expand considerably under more humid conditions, causing them to swell. On the other hand, that same profile can also cause shrinkage in the severe lack of humidity, and between the two, acclimation is always recommended to ensure the best results in every room.

An acclimation of roughly 48 hours, in temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees, should be sufficient to create the performance you?re looking for in your new flooring. Taking a chance without acclimation is not worth the problems, especially since your warranty is not likely to cover your unacclimated flooring.
